Сегодня я хочу разделить с вами редкостное удовольствие – новый альбом группы The Divine Comedy “Foreverland” – “Страна Навсегда”. Он вышел совсем недавно, но уже имеет все свойства альбома, который может остаться с нами на всю жизнь. Как поет Нил Хэннон:

The Divine Comedy или “Божественная Комедия” - это британская группа, единственным постоянным членом которой является Нил Хэннон. Хэннон пишет все песни, поет их, делает аранжировки и часто играет на всех инструментах, кроме барабанов. На сегодняшний день The Divine Comedy выпустили 11 студийных альбомов.
Помимо этого, Нил написал две камерные оперы, произведение для органа по заявке Роял Фестивал Холл, весьма успешный в Вест-Энде мюзикл “Амазонки и Ласточки” и два альбома на тему игры в крикет для воображаемой рок-группы “Duckworth Lewis Method”, придуманной им вместе с Томасом Уолшем из группы Pugwash. Это уже не говоря про сотрудничество с другими артистами, от Air до Уте Лемпер, и музыку для популярных телесериалов вроде “Father Ted” и “IT Crowd”. Музыку The Divine Comedy называют барокко-поп. Это именно оно и есть, противоречивое по сегодняшним меркам понятие – “интеллигентная поп-музыка”, музыка кажущаяся простой, пока не расслышишь удивительное изящество аранжировок, достоинство пения и поэтику слов. Но именно такой и должна быть популярная музыка, мы просто об этом на время забыли. Их последний альбом показывает, что с возрастом они становятся только лучше.

Я помню, как много раз музыка The Divine Comedy стучалась ко мне в двери: я слушал и радовался, а потом немедленно про нее забывал.

“После выпуска There Goes The Knighthood я провел около трех лет занимаясь всякими посторонними проектами. Очень мило, когда люди, которые считают, что я умею писать музыку, просят меня что-то написать, но это довольно тяжело. Поэтому писание органной музыки по заказу Royal Festival Hall заняло много моего времени. Потом альбом “Duckworth-Lewis Method” с моим другом Томасом Уолшем - я не был так уж уверен, что миру нужен второй альбом с песнями при крикет, но записывать его было весело. И я поставил себе задачу – не выпускать его, пока я не буду совершенно убежден, что все песни абсолютно правильны, чего я обычно не делаю. Я из тех людей, что настаивают на абсолютном совершенстве, пока им не становится скучно и тогда они говорят: “Ой, Бог с ним, выпускаем как есть”.

“After the release of There Goes The Knighthood, I spent about three years doing all sorts of outside projects. It’s very nice when people who think that I can write music ask me to write something, but it’s pretty hard. Therefore, the writing of organ music commissioned by the Royal Festival Hall took a lot of my time. Then the album “Duckworth-Lewis Method” with my friend Thomas Walsh - I was not so sure that the world needed a second album with songs for cricket, but it was fun to record. Then we went on tour, and it was even more fun to wear straw hats, grow whiskers and generally fool around.
Then three years ago, I was suddenly left without work and thought: maybe it would be nice to write another own album? And I set myself the task - not to release it until I am completely convinced that all songs are absolutely free.
