    Кто круче?

    или
    Ophelia.

    That token drag on your cigarette,
    that well-known face in the fire,
    it could be someone you can't forget,
    someone you've learnt to admire.

    And it's strange how the feeling goes;
    all change – down the river Ophelia goes.

    You're treading water, the price is steep,
    you say you'll cope with it all;
    you've made some promises you can't keep,
    you throw yourself against the wall,
    you throw yourself against the wall.
    You throw yourself against the wall.

    And it's strange how the feeling goes;
    all change – down the river Ophelia goes.

    You heard a noise in the firegrate,
    you look to see who goes there –
    it's just the stranger, he's come too late
    and even he's unprepared
    to find the cupboard so bare.

    It's so strange when the feeling goes;
    all change – down the river Ophelia goes.

    It's so strange when the feeling goes;
    all change – down the river Ophelia goes.

    It's so strange – down the river...

    Офелия.

    Это символическая затяжка твоей сигаретой,
    это хорошо известное лицо в огне...
    Это мог быть кто-то, кого ты не сможешь забыть,
    кто-то, кем ты научился восхищаться.
    Странно, как уходят чувства.
    Всё меняется -
    вниз по реке уходит Офелия.

    Ты плещешься на одном и том же месте, цена - чрезмерна,
    ты говоришь, что справишься со всем этим;
    ты дала некоторые обещания, которые не можешь выполнить,
    ты кидаешься на стену,
    ты кидаешься на стену,
    ты кидаешься на стену.
    Странно, как уходят чувства.
    Всё меняется -
    вниз по реке уходит Офелия.

    Ты слышишь шум за каминной решёткой,
    ты вглядываешься, чтобы увидеть, кто идет сюда -
    это просто странник, он пришел слишком поздно,
    и даже он не готов
    обнаружить, что в шкафу ничего нет.
    Так странно, когда уходят чувства.
    Всё меняется -
    вниз по реке уходит Офелия.
    Так странно, когда уходят чувства.
    Всё меняется -
    вниз по реке уходит Офелия.

    Так странно...
    Вниз по реке.

    Конечно же, в песне содержится отсылка к персонажу трагедии Уильяма Шекспира "Гамлет, принц датский". В середине книги Офелия погибает, упав в реку: "Она старалась по ветвям развесить свои венки; коварный сук сломался, и травы и она сама упали в рыдающий поток. Её одежды, раскинувшись, несли её, как нимфу; она меж тем обрывки песен пела, как если бы не чуяла беды или была созданием, рождённым в стихии вод; так длиться не могло, и одеянья, тяжело упившись, несчастную от звуков увлекли в трясину смерти."

    Также в песне содержится намек на известные афоризмы древнегреческого философа Гераклита: "Всё течет, всё меняется" и "Нельзя войти в одну и ту же реку дважды", характеризующие неизбежность постоянных перемен.

    Лицо в огне - поэтический образ, стихотворение "Лица в огне" (Faces in the Fire) Льюиса Кэрролла - да-да, того самого автора "Алисы...", многократно цитируемого Хэммиллом.

    Что касается странника, то он не смог найти в шкафу скелет (скрытые тайны) - в соответствии с известной английской пословицей.
    Ophelia.

    That token drag on your cigarette,
    that well-known face in the fire,
    you couldn’t forget
    someone you've learned to admire.

    The feeling goes;
    all change - down the river Ophelia goes.

    The price is steep,
    you say you'll be cope with it all;
    you didn’t keep
    you throw yourself against the wall,
    you throw yourself against the wall.
    You throw yourself against the wall.

    The feeling goes;
    all change - down the river Ophelia goes.

    You heard a noise in the firegrate,
    you look
    it's just the stranger
    and even he's unprepared
    to find the cupboard so bare.

    It is so strange when the feeling goes;
    all change - down the river Ophelia goes.

    It is so strange when the feeling goes;
    all change - down the river Ophelia goes.

    It's so strange - down the river ...
    -------------------------------------------------- ----------------------
    Ophelia.

    This is a symbolic puff of your cigarette
    this is a well-known face on fire ...
    It could be someone you can't forget,
    someone you learned to admire.
    Strange how feelings go.
    Everything is changing -
    down the river goes Ophelia.

    You splash in the same place, the price is excessive,
    you say you can handle it all;
    you made some promises you could not fulfill,
    you throw at the wall
    you throw at the wall
    you rush against the wall.
    Strange how feelings go.
    Everything is changing -
    down the river goes Ophelia.

    You hear the noise behind the grate,
    you peer to see who goes here -
    it's just a wanderer, he came too late
    and even he is not ready
     discover that there is nothing in the closet.
    So strange when feelings go away.
    Everything is changing -
    down the river goes Ophelia.
    So strange when feelings go away.
    Everything is changing -
    down the river goes Ophelia.

    So weird...
    Down the river.

     Of course, the song contains a reference to the character of the tragedy of William Shakespeare's "Hamlet, Prince of Denmark". In the middle of the book Ophelia dies, falling into the river: “She tried to hang her wreaths along the branches; the treacherous bitch broke, and the grass and she fell into a sobbing stream. Her clothes spread out and carried her like a nymph; as if she didn’t smell trouble or was a creature born in the element of the waters; it couldn’t last so much, and the clothes, heavy uplifted, unhappy from the sounds, were dragged into the bog of death. "

    Also in the song there is an allusion to the famous aphorisms of the ancient Greek philosopher Heraclitus: "Everything flows, everything changes" and "You can not enter the same river twice", characterizing the inevitability of constant change.

    The face on fire is a poetic image, the poem "Faces on Fire" (Faces in the Fire) by Lewis Carroll - yes, yes, the very author of "Alice ...", repeatedly quoted by Hammill.

    As for the wanderer, he could not find a skeleton in the closet (hidden secrets) - in accordance with the well-known English proverb.
