История Solarstone берет корни в далёком 1995 году, когда Рич Моуэтт (Rich Mowatt), клавишник малоизвестной британской группы Emission, знакомится с диск-жокеем местной пиратской радиостанции Энди Бэри (Andy Bury). Вдохновлённый новейшими музыкальными течениями, носящий длинные дрэды и подрабатывающий мастером в пирсинг-салоне Рич — просто звонил на станцию во время эфира Энди, чтобы под видом фаната заказать последнюю работу своего коллектива. Стандартный трюк, но в последствии этот звонок стал судьбоносным для обоих.
Разговорившись, Рич и Энди нашли множество точек соприкосновения. Как выяснилось, они любили проводить время в одном и том же ночном клубе, их пристрастия и вкусы в электронной музыке полностью совпадали. Более того, Энди Бэри даже относил себя к поклонникам группы Рича — Emission. Вскоре после личного знакомства, Энди представляет Рича своему приятелю, андерграундному саунд-продюсеру Сэму Тайни (Sam Tierney), и все трое решают собраться вместе в студии. Так родился первый мини-альбом "Aquanaut E.P", который под именем The Space Kittens был выпущен собственными силами на специально созданном лейбле Sunflower Vibes.
Попав в руки всемогущему Питу Тонгу (Pete Tong), треки мини-альбома моментально оказались в эфире BBC Radio 1. Не без его протекции, наиболее сильная работа пластинки, "Storm", была подписана к изданию на легендарном британском лейбле Hooj Choons. Дебютный сингл достиг 47-го места в национальном чарте — отнюдь не плохой результат для хаус-трека. Троицу заметили, и закономерно засыпали заказами на ремиксы. В числе первых, хаус-обработку от "космических котят" получили композиции поп-звёзд Джимми Соммервиля (Jimmy Sommerville, солист группы Bronski Beat), Human League и Лайзы Мориш (Lisa Moorish).
Спустя некоторое время, в результате долгих экспериментов в студии родился трек "The Calling" — одна из первых композиций, сочетавшая ломаный ритм и мотивы набирающего обороты популярности транса. Red Jerry, глава Hooj Choons, моментально охарактеризовал композицию как "опережающую своё время". Поскольку новый звук троицы значительно отличался от предыдущих работ, выпускать трек было целесообразно под новым именем. Несмотря на настоятельное требование лейбла назвать проект "The Pleasure Tendency" (только представьте себе это название рядом с легендарными композициями!), Рич, Энди и Сэм остановились на имени "Solarstone".
Снова — успех в чартах, новые рекруты в армии фанатов коллектива, позитивные отзывы критиков из ведущих музыкальных журналов. И снова парни сосредотачиваются на ремиксах: новое, революционное звучание обретают легендарные композиции "Cafe del Mar" от Energy 52, "Home" от Chakra, и несколько других. В результате, принято решение сконцентрироваться на наиболее успешном звучании — сочетании транса, чилл-аут и других стилей: звучании Solarstone. "Solarcoaster", "Seven Cities", "Release" and other Solarstone compositions are written in gold letters in the book of the history of dance music. Improving and transforming, creating new trends, conquering continent after continent - the sound of the "sun stone" is constantly evolving. At the same time, it is always easy to distinguish it among modern musical abundance - thanks to the filigree combination of relaxing melodies and energizing rhythm. Once again, this fact is confirmed by the latest Solarstone album - "Rain Stars Eternal".
The story of Solarstone dates back to 1995, when Rich Mowatt, keyboardist of the little-known British band Emission, became acquainted with the disc jockey of the local pirate radio station Andy Bury. Inspired by the latest musical trends, wearing long dreads and moonlighting as a master at the piercing salon, Rich simply called the station during the Andy broadcast to order the latest work of his team under the guise of a fan. A standard trick, but later this call became crucial for both.
Having talked, Rich and Andy found many common ground. As it turned out, they liked to spend time in the same night club, their addictions and tastes in electronic music completely coincided. Moreover, Andy Bury even referred to himself as a fan of Rich's group - Emission. Shortly after meeting in person, Andy introduces Rich to his friend, underground sound producer Sam Tierney, and all three decide to get together in the studio. Thus was born the first mini-album "Aquanaut E.P", which under the name The Space Kittens was released on its own using a specially created label Sunflower Vibes.
Having fallen into the hands of the almighty Pete Tong, the tracks of the mini-album instantly appeared on BBC Radio 1. Not without its patronage, the album’s most powerful work, “Storm”, was signed for release on the legendary British label Hooj Choons. The debut single reached 47th place on the national chart - not a bad result for a house track. Trinity was noticed, and naturally bombarded with orders for remixes. Among the first, the house processing from the “space kittens” was received by pop star compositions Jimmy Sommerville (Jimmy Sommerville, lead singer of Bronski Beat), Human League and Lisa Moorish.
After some time, as a result of long experiments, the track “The Calling” was born in the studio - one of the first compositions that combined a broken rhythm and motives of a trance gaining popularity. Red Jerry, the head of the Hooj Choons, instantly described the song as "ahead of its time." Since the new trinity sound was significantly different from previous works, releasing the track was advisable under a new name. Despite the label’s urging to name the project “The Pleasure Tendency” (just imagine the name next to the legendary songs!), Rich, Andy and Sam settled on the name “Solarstone”.
Again - success on the charts, new recruits in the army of fans of the team, positive reviews from critics from leading music magazines. Once again, the guys focus on remixes: the legendary compositions “Cafe del Mar” from Energy 52, “Home” from Chakra, and several others get a new, revolutionary sound. Together with many subsequent works by Solarstone, these tracks are still regularly re-released, overgrown with new versions, flash on almost every second CD-collection of "dance classics".
1999 comes, and the team suffers the first loss. The guys create several more side projects in which they try different styles and directions, but do not achieve commercial success with them. As a result, it was decided to concentrate on the most successful sound - a combination of trance, chill-out and other styles: the sound of Solarstone. Sam Tyney strongly disagrees with this turn of events, and leaves the team.
