1 В тридцатом году по разорении города был я в Вавилоне, и смущался, лежа на постели моей, и помышления всходили на сердце мое, 2 ибо я видел опустошение Сиона и богатство живущих в Вавилоне. 3 И возмутился дух мой, и я начал со страхом говорить ко Всевышнему, 4 и сказал: Владыко Господи! Ты сказал от начала, когда един основал землю, и повелел персти, 5 и дал Адаму тело смертное, которое было также создание рук Твоих, и вдохнул в него дух жизни, и он сделался живым пред Тобою, 6 и ввел его в рай, который насадила десница Твоя, прежде нежели земля произрастила плоды; 7 Ты повелел ему хранить заповедь Твою, но он нарушил ее, и Ты осудил его на смерть, и род его и происшедшие от него поколения и племена, народы и отрасли их, которым нет числа. 8 Каждый народ стал ходить по своему хотению, делал пред Тобою дела неразумные и презирал заповеди Твои. 9 По времени, Ты навел потоп на обитателей земли и истребил их, 10 и исполнилось на каждом из них, — как на Адаме смерть, так на сих потоп. 11 Одного из них Ты оставил — Ноя с семейством его, и от него произошли все праведные. 12 Когда начали размножаться обитающие на земле, и умножились сыны и народы и поколения многие, и опять начали предаваться нечестию, более нежели прежние, 13 когда начали делать пред Тобою беззаконие: Ты избрал Себе из них мужа, которому имя Авраам, 14 и возлюбил его и открыл ему одному волю Твою, 15 и положил ему завет вечный, и сказал ему, что никогда не оставишь семени его. И дал ему Исаака, и Исааку дал Иакова и Исава; 16 Ты избрал Себе Иакова, Исава же отринул. И умножился Иаков чрезвычайно. 17 Когда Ты вывел из Египта семя его и привел к горе Синайской, 18 тогда преклонил небеса, уставил землю, поколебал вселенную, привел в трепет бездны и весь мир в смятение. 19 И прошла слава Твоя в четырех явлениях: в огне, землетрясении, бурном ветре и морозе, чтобы дать закон семени Иакова и радение роду Израиля, 20 но не отнял у них сердца лукавого, чтобы закон Твой принес в них плод. 21 С сердцем лукавым первый Адам преступил заповедь, и побежден был; так и все, от него происшедшие. 22 Осталась немощь и закон в сердце народа с корнем зла, и отступило доброе, и осталось злое. 23 Прошли времена и окончились лета, — и Ты воздвиг Себе раба, именем Давида; 24 повелел ему построить город имени Твоему и в нем приносить Тебе фимиам и жертвы. 25 Много лет это исполнялось, и потом согрешили населяющие город, 26 во всем поступая так, как поступил Адам и все его потомки; ибо и у них было сердце лукавое. 27 И Ты предал город Твой в руки врагов Твоих. 28 Неужели лучше живут обитатели Вавилона и за это владеют Сионом? 29 Когда я пришел сюда, видел нечестия, которым нет числа, и в этом тридцатом году пленения видит душа моя многих грешников, — и изныло сердце мое, 30 ибо я видел, как Ты поддерживаешь сих грешников и щадишь нечестивцев, а народ Твой погубил, врагов же Твоих сохранил и не явил о том никакого знамения. 31 Не понимаю, как этот путь мог измениться. Неужели Вавилон поступает лучше, нежели Сион? 32 Или иной народ познал Тебя, кроме Израиля? или какие племена веровали заветам Твоим, как Иаков? 33 Ни воздаяние им не равномерно, ни труд их не принес плода, ибо я прошел среди народов, и видел, что они живут в изобилии, хотя и не вспоминают о заповедях Твоих. 34 Итак взвесь на весах и наши беззакония и дела живущих на земле, и нигде не найдется имя Твое, как только у Израиля. 35 Когда не грешили пред Тобою живущие на земле? или какой народ так сохранил заповеди Твои? 36 Между сими хотя по именам найдешь хранящих заповеди Твои, а у других народов не найдешь. Chapter 3
1 In the thirtieth year, after the destruction of the city, I was in Babylon, and I was troubled, lying on my bed, and thoughts arose in my heart. 2 For I saw the desolation of Zion and the riches of those who dwell in Babylon. 3 And my spirit was troubled, and I began to speak with fear to the Most High, 4 and said: Lord, Lord! You spoke from the beginning, when one founded the earth, and commanded the fingers, 5 and gave Adam a mortal body, which was also the creation of your hands, and breathed into him the spirit of life, and he became alive before you, 6 and brought him into paradise, which Thy right hand has planted before the earth brings forth fruit; 7 Thou hast commanded him to keep Thy commandment, but he broke it, and Thou hast condemned him to death, and his generation and descendants from him and his tribes, their peoples and their branches, which are innumerable. 8 Every people began to walk according to their own will, did foolish deeds before you, and despised your commandments. 9 In time, You brought a deluge on the inhabitants of the earth and destroyed them, 10 and it was fulfilled on each of them, - as on Adam death, so on this flood. 11 You left one of them — Noah with his family, and from him came all the righteous. 12 When the inhabitants of the earth began to multiply, and sons and peoples and generations multiplied, and again began to indulge in wickedness, more than before, 13 when they began to do iniquity in front of you: You chose a man out of them, whose name was Abraham, 14 and loved him And you revealed your will to him alone, 15 and made him an everlasting covenant, and told him that you would never leave his seed. And he gave him Isaac, and Isaac gave Jacob and Esau; 16 You chose Jacob for yourself, but you cast away Esau. And Jacob multiplied exceedingly. 17 When you brought forth his seed out of Egypt and brought it to Mount Sinai, 18 then bowed the heavens, set the earth down, shook the universe, caused the abyss to tremble and the whole world to confusion. 19 And your glory passed in four appearances: in fire, an earthquake, a stormy wind and frost, to give the law to the seed of Jacob and joy to the generation of Israel, 20 but he did not take the wicked heart from them, so that your law might bear fruit in them. 21 With a wicked heart, the first Adam transgressed the commandment, and was defeated; so are all that have come from him. 22 The weakness and the law remained in the heart of the people with the root of evil, and the good departed, and the evil remained. 23 The times have passed and the years have come to an end, and you raised up a servant for yourself, by the name of David; 24 He commanded him to build a city for your name, and in it to offer you incense and sacrifices. 25 This was fulfilled for many years, and then the inhabitants of the city sinned, 26 in everything they did as Adam and all his descendants did; for they also had an evil heart. 27 And you delivered your city into the hand of your enemies. 28 Do the inhabitants of Babylon live better, and for this do they own Zion? 29 When I came here, I saw wickedness, which is innumerable, and in this thirtieth year of captivity my soul sees many sinners, and my heart languished, 30 for I saw how You support these sinners and spare the wicked, but Your people have destroyed. But he has kept thy enemies and showed no sign of this. 31 I don't understand how this path could have changed. Is Babylon doing better than Zion? 32 Or did any other people know you besides Israel? or what tribes believed thy covenants, as Jacob? 33 Neither their reward is uniform, nor their labor bore fruit, for I passed among the nations and saw that they live in abundance, although they do not remember Thy commandments. 34 Therefore weigh in the balance our iniquities and the deeds of those who dwell on the earth, and nowhere is your name found except in Israel. 35 When have not those who dwell on the earth sinned against you? Or what nation has kept Your commandments in this way? 36 Among these, although by their names you will find those who keep your commandments, but among other nations you will not find them.
